Picnic for two - Simon's at Groot Constantia
Starting the year with a family picnic has become an annual tradition for us, and this year, we discovered a true gem—Simon’s at Groot Constantia. Nestled on South Africa’s oldest wine estate, this destination offered a perfect blend of history, delicious food, and family-friendly relaxation.
Groot Constantia, established in 1685, is not just a wine farm—it’s a piece of South African history. Before settling down for our picnic, we took a leisurely walk around the estate, admiring its historical landmarks and breathtaking scenery. The serene environment, steeped in heritage, made for a delightful start to our day.
Arriving at Simon’s Restaurant, we were greeted with warm smiles and a level of hospitality that set the tone for a memorable outing. The staff led us to the picnic lawns, where we found our spot under the shade of majestic trees. The balance of the summer sun and cool shade was simply perfect.
As we opened our picnic basket, we were immediately impressed by the spread. The basket was brimming with high-quality, generous portions of food that catered to everyone in the family. From fresh, flavourful bites to indulgent treats, it was a feast that left us full and with leftovers to enjoy at home—a true testament to the excellent value and quality.
One of our top priorities when choosing a picnic spot is its suitability for children. While Simon’s doesn’t have a designated play area, the spacious lawns and open setting provided plenty of room for our kids to run around and enjoy themselves. The environment felt safe and welcoming, making it a fantastic choice for families.
Even though this outing was part of a sponsored review, Simon’s encouraged us to share our honest feedback—and we’re thrilled to give it a glowing endorsement. The combination of delectable food, picturesque surroundings, and warm service makes Simon’s an ideal picnic destination.
Additionally, its convenient location just 15 minutes from Cape Town’s city centre means you can easily plan a quick getaway without venturing far. As part of the Constantia Wine Route, it’s a hidden gem worth discovering.
As we reflect on this experience, we can confidently say that Simon’s exceeded our expectations. If you’re looking for a place to relax, enjoy great food, and soak in the beauty of Cape Town, Simon’s at Groot Constantia is a must-visit.
From our family to yours, we wish you a wonderful 2025 filled with special moments. When planning your next picnic, give Simon’s a try—you won’t be disappointed!
