(Video) Theewaterskloof Dam In Dire Condition As Day Zero Approaches

Level six water restrictions have officially been put into place since January 1, 2018, but even if  all Capetonians stick to their individual water consumption limit of 87 litres a day (which only 54% of the city’s four million residents are meeting) our beloved Mother city would still run dry before the summer ends.

It was announced that the new “day zero” is expected to occur around April 22 and that the water limit should be reduced to 50 liters per person.

Cape Town’s dam levels are currently at a dismal 29.7% and if (or when) the levels reach 13.5% De Lille said that everyone’s taps, except those in informal settlements, will run dry. We will then have to go to one of 200 distribution points around the city to collect a daily allowance of 25 liters per person.

If you can’t stick to your daily limit of 87 liters currently, think how you will struggle with only 25 liters?

Level-six water restrictions came into effect on January 1 2, 18. It is possible that the current restriction of 87 litres per person per day will be replaced with a 50-litre limit.

If the water shortage isn’t obvious enough for you already, take a look at this drone footage taken by Ray De Vries of the nearly dry Theewaterskloof dam, which is one of the City’s biggest water reservoirs.
