The infrared cabin is a revolutionary type of sauna that utilises infrared light to provide a unique and beneficial heating experience. Hotel Verde’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its achievements, as it is the first hotel in Africa and the sixth globally to attain LEED Platinum status for new construction. In addition, the hotel also received LEED Platinum certification for operations and maintenance, making it the first hotel in the world to achieve double Platinum certification. The hotel achieved a six-star Green Star certification from the Green Building Council of South Africa for its operations.

As a testament to Hotel Verde’s unwavering commitment to sustainable living, Verde Vita has been thoughtfully designed to align with the hotel’s eco-friendly principles which help minimise its environmental footprint. “Verde Vita’s design embodies sustainability in every aspect, from the reuse of the existing shell and walls to the implementation of an infrared cabin, which significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional saunas. A construction waste management plan was put in place throughout the building process, ensuring that waste is avoided, reused, recycled, or donated, resulting in a landfill diversion rate of more than 70%,” said David Pollock, Technical Manager of Hotel Verde, who oversaw the entire project management.

The architects behind the development of Verde Vita are the renowned Ohkre Collective, who have created a stunning design that seamlessly blends luxury with sustainability. The spa consultant for the project was Jacoline Wentzel of Spa Warehouse, whose expertise in this field is unparalleled. Ecolution, led by André Harms, has worked to ensure that the spa was built with the environment in mind, and Phase Three, a highly respected construction company, has brought this project to life.

As part of the spa experience, customers have the unique opportunity to indulge in the natural hotel pool in the lush garden surrounded by wetlands and fynbos. Hotel Verde is the only commercial hotel with more than 100 rooms to have a natural pool on the African continent. This natural hotel pool uses plants to filter the water without the need for any harmful chemicals such as chlorine.
