Jacobson came to Cape Town to attend his movie premiere “The Jump” (An hour-long documentary about the jump he did off the world’s third tallest building in Dubai) showing at the Labia Theatre during the Wavescape Film Festival on 8th of December. He set the tow world height record the day before with the help of Volvo ocean yacht Team Brunel’s VO65 model vessel. Attached to the 30.30 metre mast he reached 277 metres, breaking the previous four-year standing 244m world record set by Jesse Richman from Hawaii.
Jacobsen attached himself to a line that was dragged behind the boat. He was then towed by the yacht into a strong southeasterly wind until he could gain enough power for liftoff. Kyle Langford, a Team Brunel member who also loves kiteboarding, carefully let out up to 800 metres of line via a winch. Their teamwork resulted in record-breaking heights.
It took Nick over a minute to paraglide back down after he reached the maximum length.
“Today was quite the day. World record Wednesday’s. Couldn’t have asked for a better crew to work with. I feel like I’m still up there.” Jacobson said in an Instagram post on the same day he broke the record.
In an interview, Nick said that his favorite spot to kiteboard is in Big Bay South Africa and that apart from Denmark, he also calls South Africa Home.
