The 10 best things to do in Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is a beautiful quaint little town that is situated about a 45 minute drive outside Cape Town. Holding some of the best winelands around the Cape, this old little town bursts flavour that is not only rich in history and culture, but also surrounded by some of the most magical mountain ranges and nature reserves. There are a range of activities one can do in Stellenbosch and we have rounded up the top ten!

Go Hiking in the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve

This hike passes through the beautiful Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, best to do in Summer because along the hike there is a rewarding waterfall that you can soak in! Also it is a really beautiful scene to experience and cool off in!

Go Strawberry Picking

Strawberry-picking season happens every year between October and December at several farms in and around Stellenbosch.

Participate in a sweet Street Soiree

The Stellenbosch Wine Routes during the summer bring you, pop-up-food-and-wine events that take place on a street named Drostdy Street. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of Stellenbosch’s leading restaurants delicacy pairing with fine wines, having the towns historic oak trees as a backdrop.

 

Visit the Root 44 Market

The Root 44 Market offers live entertainment, craft and homeware stalls, as well as a great selection of edible treats. No matter the weather, this market is ready come hail or storm with its sturdy, super-cosy marquees. This is the perfect family activity where one can bring their kids whilst simultaneously enjoying a glass of bubbly.

Take a walk inside a botanical garden

The Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden is the oldest university botanical garden in South Africa, with an array of plant species. Each section of the garden has its own unique theme.

Have a picnic on one of Stellenbosch’s most beautiful wine farms

Warwick is one of the most stunning wineries in Stellenbosch. Guests have the option of two picnic experiences, one can either relax on the lawns with bean bags and cushions. With this option you get served by a butler. On the other hand you can enjoy a delightful picnic.

Go Visit some big cats

Vredenheim is a wonderful option for a family day out, being both a wine farm and wildlife sanctuary where one can see lion, cheetah, leopard and tigers.
